Strain Integrity
According to Leafly, ” Descending from Northern California and Afghanistan genetics, Alien Dawg is a cross between Chemdawg and Alien Technology. With a sour and pungent odor, Alien Dawg has a light, bitter taste and presents brilliant mind and body effects. ”
According to Wikileaf, ” The main positive effect users experience when smoking this strain is the instant uplift and feeling of euphoria. This helps the user to feel more happy and creative as well as more sociable and talkative. The negative side effect of this strain is dry mouth. ”
From the OCS website, ” Greenhouse grown in Leamington, Ont., under LED lights with assistance from the sun, Solei’s Renew is an indica-dominant strain with bright green buds covered in red hairs, a musky aroma and flavours of lemon and spice. Its primary terpenes are limonene, which is also found in citrus fruit, juniper, and caryophyllene, which is present in black pepper, cloves and balsam. Renew has very high THC potency potential and is available in 1 g, 3.5 g and 7 g of dried flower. ”
Back to back Alien Dawg review
Solei’s Renew aka Alien Dawg is the perfect strain review after Canaca’s Alien Dawg. We are reviewing Alien Dawg from the same breeder rendered by two different growers. Solei (Aphria) Renew has a THC of 16.91% and cost $32.50 for 3.5 grams versus $34.10 for 3.5 grams and THC of 16.1% from Canaca. It doesn’t get more competitive than that? Solei’s Renew scent of citrus released from breaking the squishy buds, however, is fresher.
The “high” profile and experience is exactly the same for Solei and Canaca. It starts slowly building over 15 minutes ending with a steady energy flow and an effervescence mental state of creativity. There is no edginess as the Indica calming body effect is very prominent. The first hour is a wakeful and blissful state similar to just having a special liqueur coffee. The entire experience is almost two hours and there is a bit of tiredness at the end of two hours.
Activity pairing for Alien Dawg may include a broad range of activities as there is little short term memory disturbances and time distortions. For an Indica, this strain works well for productivity or socializing.
In hindsight, we should have done Solei and Canaca in one review. What we learned from this review is how well priced the market really is. Solei and Canaca’s Alien Dawg are identical in effects and similarly priced. Solei and Canaca’s Alien Dawg priced below $10 a gram is the largest and most competitive cannabis market segment. For $10 a gram and below, we should get a strong product with two or three major cannabis expressions and a duration of around two hours. For $12 a gram or higher, we expect to experience four or five cannabis expressions over 3 hours in duration with these top tier products. Solei’s Renew delivers what we would expect from the below $10 price products. This is a solid table wine that can be served anytime for any occasion.
Conclusion
Renew (Alien Dawg) by Solei (Aphria)
After two reviews of Alien Dawg, we are getting a good sense of what this strain is about. Alien Dawg is one of the newer strains that are categorized as Indica but behaves like a Sativa. Strains like Ultra Sour, MK Ultra and Sensi Star are also Indicas that deliver intense Sativa expressions like energy, creativity, focus and uplift. Alien Dawg is one of this new carefully bred strain for unique expressions. We believe the uniqueness of Alien Dawg is the combination of strong and steady energy delivered to a creative mind and calmed body. It’s like drinking a Bailey coffee first thing in the morning.

On an investment note, we realized the difficult position of LPs in selling their products. If you cannot tell the World who you are and what your products are about, how do the World find out about you? By law, LPs cannot advertise themselves or their products. How does Hexo tell the World they are open for business with a $140 oz? The inability to market maybe a fatal flaw that make surviving very difficult for the LPs.
Mr. Government Man, we need an avenue for LPs to advertise/communicate and signal ahead to customers what is coming down the pipe? We recently interviewed University students buying from illegal dispensaries and they have no idea what is going on in the legal market and Hexo’s pricing of $140 an oz. Some of them don’t even know who the legal producers are. Your rules are slowly killing the legal producers. Let the producers introduce themselves to their potential customers. Think about it …
