Strain Integrity

According to Leafly, ” Bred by Barney’s Farm, 8 Ball Kush is a pure indica variety descended from an Afghani landrace strain. Like many other cannabis varieties that come from the Hindu Kush region, 8 Ball Kush produces large amounts of crystal resin that blanket the buds. Its aroma is earthy and spicy, and you may find its effects to be more cerebrally stimulating than the average indica. A hardy and resilient plant, 8 Ball Kush has a 50 to 60 day flowering time indoors while outdoor gardens finish at the end of September.

From the OCS website, ” No. 425 Midnight Jam is a potent Indica strain that descends from Afghani Landrace. The terpene profile is dominated by caryophyllene, myrcene, limonene, and alpha-humulene, resulting in its savory aroma, which is sweet, earthy and musky. Citrus and spicy notes of clove, pepper, and sage are also present. The resinous buds are forest green and light green with yellow and vibrant orange pistils.

It’s a Midnight Jam!

No. 425 Midnight Jam (8 Ball Kush) by Haven St. (TerrAscend) packaged on October 20, 2020, cost $39.95 for 3.5 grams with 20.12% THC and a slight scent of  musky earthy hay.  Our test amount was 0.26 grams.

This has been a challenging review from opening the container to reviewing the “high.”  Here is a hilarious look at that container opening effort by a YouTube reviewer starting at the 2.5 minute mark.  We had exactly the same experience and had to resort to using a screwdriver to pry the cap off.  After we pry it open, our first two attempts to review this strain ended up lost in deep space curtsey of 8 Ball Kush.  We got “high” entered our isolation tank and totally forgot what we were doing, twice, or two days in a row.

Third time lucky?  The “high” starts fast and furious.  The ignition is like a Rockstar strain.  The “high” starts with a powerful energy surge that also wipes out short term memory and refreshes with a cerebral explosion.  We caught the culprit this time and it was a show stopper.  The “high” lasts a solid two hours with chilled after effects for another hour.

This “high” was an intense creatively euphoric bomb.  8 Ball eh?  The term “8 Ball” original use in drug culture was to identify an eighth of an ounce of cocaine.  This is an 8 Ball?  Yes, it is.  This is not cocaine but it “Hits” like a Mack truck.  The creative explosion wipes out reality with a big bang.  We were destroyed leaving us with one impression, “What happened?”

Activity pairing is best for the evening time slots.  The intensity of the “high” is strong enough to disrupt the best laid plans.  We do recommend this for a party time post Covid-19.

Conclusion

No. 425 Midnight Jam (8 Ball Kush) by Haven St. (TerrAscend)

TerrAscend has a knack for names.  Noisy Neighbours aka Ultra Sour was a perfect name for a busy buzzy “high.”  No. 425 Midnight Jam is perfect for the strain to bring the late evening alive with a Midnight jam!

THC:  20.12%

Quality:  8.4

Intensity:  8.2

Duration:  8.2

Total:  8.26

Cost:  $36.95 for 3.5 grams

Would we buy this again?  Yes, we do really like the “high.”  What we don’t like was the defective packaging and popcorn buds with shakes at this price level.  The cannabis has the industrial look and feel.  But, this 8 Ball hits like a Wrecking Ball.

On an investment note, TerrAscend stock price has been on a tear because they are profitable!  TerrAscend main cannabis business is in the US and we believe the US cannabis infrastructure is more conducive to profitability than the Canadian model.  A licensed US cannabis grower can also sell through their own retail outlets without having to reapply to sell cannabis that they are licensed to grow, which is not the case in Canada.  As a licensed producer in Canada you can only sell medically.  And, there’s more with Provincial barriers and ….  Welcome to Canada!
